We understand that children show their understanding in a variety of ways, and we aim to provide them with many mediums to do so. As such, our classroom environment is a purposeful space. We are a very intentional with the materials that we place in our learning centers. Material must provoke the children to go deep in their inquiries and express their understanding in many ways. Classroom Our classroom is designed to be calm and reflective of our students interest and wonders. The children will be introduced to diverse cultures through educational units, music, language, and students backgrounds. Toys and printed material will reflect many ethnicities and cultures. Children are active learners who learn best from activities that they plan, carry out, and reflect on. We set up intentional play activities and explorations that meet the needs of individual students. We provide high quality instruction, and care for every student who comes into our classroom. Curriculum Our children learn to through our woven educational approach. We focus on art, social-emotional skills, language, writing, math, science, and Spanish. Our role is to support them as they explore the world and not limit their learning by exclusively teaching to our viewpoint or understanding. The children have control over topics or “units of study” that they want to learn about. Menu We participate in the Mid Michigan Food Program and follow their guidelines when designing our menus. We change fruit and vegetables so we can provide fresh produce all year long. ***** Mid Morning Snack: Our friends can get really excited about school when they arrive which can be difficult for them to sit and eat. We serve them a mid morning snack at 9:30. Lunch is provided by parents. Please only pack healthy foods and no sweets. All children need water in their water bottle only. PM Snack: We serve snack shortly after nap that is kiddo approved and nut free. All meals/snacks are served with milk (soy or dairy), and water. If your child requires a special diet such as vegetarian, vegan, or is picky eater, please review the menu daily so you can send in additional food specific to your child’s needs. If your child has food sensitivities and allergies you are required to send in ALL of their meals. All special treats must be nut free. Some things to keep in mind: For safety, we ask all families to cut up tomatoes, grapes, sausage/hot dogs into bite size pieces. No sweet treats or desserts in your child’s lunch. Lunch must be in containers that are easy for your child to open/close independently (waste free).
